The Frappuccino didn’t take long to become one of the best selling drinks in the world. The name has even become a “catch all” for a milk based coffee drink in many people’s minds, often just called a “frap.”

The Short History of Starbucks

The first Starbucks opened in 1971 in the historic Pike Place Market in Seattle. That’s the place where they throw the fish. Hope none of those landed in the coffee.

The name, Starbucks, comes from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, the classic American novel about the 19th century whaling industry. That’s why they have the Mermaid on the logo.

Howard Schultz joined Starbucks in 1982. On a trip to Italy, he visited Milan’s famous espresso bars and was impressed with their popularity and culture. He returned home and added Lattes and Mochas to Starbucks and Seattle goes coffee-crazy.

The rest of the world quickly follows and today Starbucks has more than 15,000 locations across the globe.

The History of the Frappuccino

Starbucks acquired the rights to a frozen coffee drink similar and the trademarked name, Frappuccino, when it bought out the Coffee Connection of Boston, a chain with 24-stores mostly around New England. A pretty good deal in hindsight.

The original Frap, however, was completely different from the one that Starbucks serves.

The name, Frappuccino, is a combination of frappe and cappuccino. An original cappuccino is a strong Italian coffee drink topped with frothed milk — and still served at Starbucks and every other coffee bar.

Frappe is either taken from frappé, a Greek coffee-based milkshake, or from the local New England term for a thick milkshake, frappe. Or perhaps both.

Cinnabon serves similar drinks called Mochalatta and Caramelatta and Dunkin’ Donuts also has a drink called Coolatta .

So I suppose this is actually 4 recipes in 1. Cool.

Starbucks Frappuccino Recipe Ingredients

1/2 cup fresh Espresso

2 1/2 cups low fat Milk (2 percent)

1/4 cup granulated Sugar

1 tablespoon dry Pectin (this adds no taste and can easily be left out. What it does is make it “thick”)

Directions

Combine all of the ingredients in a pitcher or covered container.

Stir or shake until sugar is dissolved.

Chill and serve cold.

To make the “Mocha” variety:

Add a pinch (1/16 teaspoon) of cocoa powder to the mixture before combining.

This copy will be even more authentic if you use Starbucks beans and grind them yourself just before brewing.

The only way to truly clean surfaces is by using a steam pressure washer. The steam from the hot water will wash the surface clean as well as combine the perfect amounts of detergents, while using the natural abrasive action of300 degree steam on even the hardest to clean surfaces. There are many times that the only option an owner has is to use the steam cleaner. If cold water were used, the stains and mess would only be further cemented on to the surface, clumping together instead of peeling off. Some of the more popular industries that require steam pressure washers are the meat an pork processing plants as well as the restaurant industry.

The fuel that makes a steam pressure washer go can come in different forms. Some of the more common ones include gas, diesel, electric, and propane boilers, all used to head the water up to 300 degrees and higher. Because this is superheated steam, the boilers are incredibly powerful, and must keep the stainless steel heating coils at a good temperature in order to maintain the high flow-rate of water and steam. In addition, the steam must be heated in under 30 seconds in some cases.

While water based units also work fine, steam pressure washers have distinct advantages. There are virtually no surfaces that cannot be cleaned by steam due to the extreme heat involved. It also sanitizes in addition to cleaning, making the surface hot enough to kill most germs and bacteria, therefore getting rid of the need for harsh chemical solvents and detergents. Additionally, since the steam is superheated, many surfaces and components that would be ruined by water would be able to benefit from a steam pressure washer without damage.

When it’s time for that morning (or evening) cup of coffee, it is best to use coffee beans that are fresh right off the grinder. Coffee drinkers will always tell you that the taste and aroma is best when you use freshly ground beans.

TIP: Did you know that keeping your coffee beans (and even pre-ground coffee such as Folgers) in the freezer will protect and preserve freshness and longevity?

When exposed to air, ground coffee will lose flavor and aroma. That’s why it is important to grind only what you need at the moment. While the above freezing tip can preserve your ground beans for longer periods of time, nothing beats the flavor and aroma of the freshly ground bean. If you do elect to store the ground coffee make sure;

1.) The container is completely dry with no moisture or condensation.

2.) The container is airtight. A sealable lid is best as covering it with plastic wrap will not make an airtight seal.

3.) Refrigerate or freeze immediately.

There are three main types of grinders you can use on whole coffee beans. These three types of grinders we will be discussing are the conical burr, the burr grinder, and the electric blade.

1.) The Conical Burr Grinder

The conical burr grinder is the superior choice in preserving the flavor and smell of the coffee. You can alter the speed of the grinding from a rapid to a much slower pace. It produces a very nice texture. Heat and ground beans don’t work well together. Heat dissipates the flavor and aroma so selecting a slower speed is best. This prevents some grinding machines from becoming overheated.

The Conical Burr is also better for a wider variety of coffee makers and expresso machines. It’s speed is usually around 500rpm or less.

2.) The Burr Grinder

Burr Grinders are much faster with speeds ranging from 10-20k rotations per minute.

These types of grinders are a favorite for home use because they are fast and economical. In contrast to the Conical Burr grinder you will not be able to achieve as fine of grinding. They will, however, put out a decent final product for the price.

3.) Blade Grinders

In comparison to the Conical and Burr Grinders, the Blade Grinder is the fastest one available today. Their speeds typically reach between 25k and 30k rpms. Because of this speed, Blade Grinders will give you an end product that contains coffee granules that are both small and large in size.

When grinding coffee in a Blade Grinder there is a dust that will form. This dust can clog some machines (especially presses and expresso makers). Therefore it is best to use Blade Grinders in drip coffee makers.

Your grinder choice is only half of the equation though. You must consider all of the details regarding the coffee machine you use as well. Consider the economics (not everyone needs a $500 coffee maker!). Check out how easy it is to clean and maintain the processor. It’s not fun if you have to spend 10 minutes every morning cleaning the machine. Also consider the noise level. If you’re up at 4AM grinding coffee you don’t want to wake the whole house!

If you combine a good choice in your grinder selection with some common sense about your coffee processor you can achieve gourmet results without breaking the bank. You’ll have fresher coffee all the time and save some money in the process.

So stop buying that expensive ground coffee that’s been sitting on a shelf. Invest in a good coffee grinder and start enjoying that good cup of Joe every morning!

If you enter a departmental store, you can find different types of water like flavored water, vitamin, Fitness, Clustered, Oxygenated and All premium waters.

Water is very important in our life. Water covers 70 percent of the surface, and about 3 percent of it is drinkable water. The brain is about 80 percent water, blood is about 90 percent and the liver is nearly 97 percent. Doctors say it is important to drink at least eight glasses of water everyday. If we don’t, we become dehydrated, leading to headaches, fatigue and lack of concentration. But kids don’t like to drink water; we have to motivate them to drink in the form of flavored water.

Nowadays kids only love to eat junk food. This may affect their health in the long run. It may lead to obesity. So we should try to instill healthy habits in kids at an early age. Instead of giving them high calorie, high carb and sugary foods and drinks try these instead. There are some zero carb drinks that you can give your kids. Tang is a great summer beverage. It is sugar free and low in calorie. For a hot drink that has some low carbs instead of tea try water with lemon. This is a warm citrus delight for winter. Kids would love to have warm water with lemon as it can help them rest since they are not all sugared up. Sweetened flavored water is a great idea for a zero carb drink. A good example would be Capella flavored drops. You can enjoy drinking water without giving up fun flavors and taste. You can try strawberry, banana, chocolate, Butterscotch, coconut, Chocolate Raspberry etc. Just add a few drops of your favorite flavor in water. You can enjoy drinking your water. It has Zero calories, no sugar and no carbs! This is great for those sunny days to avoid dehydration.

You can also try unsweetened flavored waters like Capella Flavored water. It does not contain sugar or artificial sweeteners! This drink is a great alternative to sodas, juice and other sweetened drinks. You can avoid dehydration in your little ones. Once kids get used to soda and caffeinated drinks it becomes very difficult to stop them. The best solution would be to stock up flavored water in the refrigerator. If they feel thirsty they will drink this instead of soda or caffeinated drinks. So stop keeping soda or caffeinated drinks in your refrigerator.

Capella flavored drops are much cheaper when compared to flavored water. If you buy flavored water, cost per bottle may be $1.89. But the cost of flavored drops per bottle may be 0.13 cents. It is half the price. All Capella flavors are free from fats, calories, Carbs, Sodium, Sugars and Artificial sweeteners.

Gourmet coffee beans are almost exclusively high-quality mild varieties of the coffee bean Arabica. Arabica coffees are known for their full body flavors and low acidity. However, the term gourmet coffee has also come to embrace coffees that are enhanced with flavorings during the roasting process.

Where you get your gourmet coffee beans depends a lot on what you are considering gourmet. Are you looking for gourmet flavored coffee beans or gourmet coffee beans that are grown in a specific region such as the Kona beans of Hawaii.

You can purchase gourmet coffee beans at your local grocery retailer. However, you cannot be assured of their freshness or their authenticity. Any company can label a product as gourmet and you might not know the difference until you have already spent your money on an inferior product. Additionally, they most likely won’t carry the higher end gourmet beans.

Local coffee shops are more likely to carry authentic gourmet coffee beans that are fresh. They are staking their business’ reputation on any product they carry and sell. This alone is reason enough to trust their product. In addition, they are usually able to procure a larger variety of gourmet coffees than a typical retailer. They most likely will take special orders as well.

Picking a Gourmet Coffee Bean

If you are going to buy a gourmet coffee bean you should know ahead of time what kind of bean you want to buy. To help you make your decision, based on the beans growing location and expected flavors, you can choose from among these gourmet coffee beans:

Brazilian coffee beans: Typically these coffee beans are consistent but unremarkable in their characteristic. These coffee beans make a wonderful base for coffee blends.

Colombia: Everyone has heard the commercials with Juan Valdez and his Columbia n coffee; however, what they don’t tell you is the best Colombia coffee is the Supremo and the Excelso. Colombia also has a Colombian Medellin that is very rich with a fully body and slight acidity. Aged Vintage Colombian coffees are very sweet, thick and rich with a little bit of acidity.

If you like full bodied coffees with that are strong and sharply acidic then you should try gourmet coffee beans from Costa Rica. Another area that has a full bodied coffee that is rich in flavor has a wonderful aroma and a slightly acidic taste is Mexico.

Panama coffee beans are noted for being full-bodied with a mild flavor and a sharp acidity.

Two of the most excellent coffee beans are from Hawaii’s Kona area and Jamaica’s Blue Mountain area coffee growers. The Kona beans have a hint of spice and sweetness with a full body a rich flavor. The Blue Mountain gourmet beans are considered top of the line coffee beans with their full body, slight acidity and smooth mellow flavor.

Gourmet coffee from the Dominican Republic is rich with a moderate acidity. You should look for coffee beans specifically from Santo Domingo or Barahona.

In Guatemala and El Salvador you should look for beans grown in the mountains or high areas. These tend to have the best body and a mild flavor. Those from El Salvador tend to have a medium level of acidity while those from Guatemala have a higher acidity level with a spicy, smoky characteristic.

Java Island, whose name is synonymous with coffee, offers gourmet Arabica beans that are spicy with a heavy body and mild acidity.

The best quality Arabica beans in the Asia/Indonesia area are from Sumatra. Sumatra coffees are wonderfully full-bodied, rich with a mellow taste that is low in acid.

Gourmet coffees can come from around the world or from your local coffee shop. Gourmet coffee can be grown in specific locations that lend to its taste, such as the Kona coffee beans, or it can be made into a gourmet coffee through the addition of flavorings during the roasting process. Either way, coffee enthusiasts know when they are being served a gourmet coffee; it’s all in the taste.

If your doctor has told you to cut back or even eliminate caffeine you probably left the office in a state of semi-panic. Coffee holds a special place in many people’s daily routine. It’s not always the caffeine that makes people love coffee, for some it is the flavor and aroma that excite the senses. So what are you to do now that you can’t enjoy your piping hot mug of hazelnut coffee? Don’t despair, despite what you might know, gourmet coffee is available in decaffeinated varieties.

Gourmet coffee producers finally realized that they had to produce decaffeinated versions to keep up with the ever-growing population of health wise individuals. The taste of decaf coffees may be slightly different than that of regular roast coffees but it can still be flavored and have a nice flavor to them.

Typically there are two methods for decaffeinating coffee. With either of the processes it is done before the beans are roasted and a little of the flavor of the bean is lost. One process uses a solvent to absorb the caffeine from the beans and then they are washed to remove the solvent.

The alternative process uses a method called the Swiss Water method. There are no chemicals used, which for some people is important. The coffee beans are instead treated with hot water and steam to remove the caffeine; however, they also lose some of their oils which is where their flavor lies.

In order to retain more flavor during the decaffeination process, the very best green coffee beans must be used. This of course means you, the consumer, will pay more for the coffee, but you won’t be as disappointed with the flavor.

Once the coffee beans are decaffeinated, gourmet coffee companies can create those wonderful flavors coffee enthusiasts have come to love. Not every coffee bean or variety is available in a decaf version. If you want a rich Jamaican or Ethiopian decaf coffee you will be disappointed. Part of the richness in these coffees is in the caffeine.

Where to find Decaf Gourmet Coffees

Your local grocer likely carries some flavored coffees in decaf, but to find the truly gourmet, flavorful versions you should look to gourmet shops, either online or in your local area. For true, full flavor be prepared to pay a little more than your typical shelf brand decafs.

Arabica Coffee the Arabica Reserve Blend Decaf coffee is an excellent decaffeinated coffee that does not have that lingering after taste that many cheaper decafs do.

One of the top rated decaffeinated coffees available, as judged by Food & Wine Magazine comes from Volcanica Coffee. Volcanica Coffee beans come from some of the best coffee growing regions in the world such as Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. The most popular of their coffees is the Costa Rican Blend.

Coffee enthusiasts who are looking for both a decaf coffee and an organic coffee should try Caffe Appassionato. These organically grown coffee beans are processed using the Swiss Water method and roasted at very low temperatures to create a near perfect decaf coffee.

While there are many shelf brands of decaffeinated coffee available, true coffee lovers will find more satisfaction in the beans that have been carefully processed just for decaf lovers. Buying from the local grocer may save some money but in the end these coffees will leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Gourmet flavored coffee – that alone conjures up images of piping hot mugs of freshly brewed coffee being served after dinner at an elite restaurant as you enjoy your crepe suzette. Is it an advertising gimmick to get you to spend more on certain coffees or is there truly a difference. The fact is, gourmet flavored coffees are real and they aren’t for the elite alone. In fact, you can probably find a gourmet flavored coffee in a lot of homes and offices.

The popularity of gourmet flavored coffee has soared. For years the only gourmet flavored coffees were the instant coffees available in your local grocery. Although they are quite flavorful, they aren’t nearly as tasty as a pot of freshly ground gourmet flavored coffee can be.

Coffee roasters realized that people like variety and of course they took notice of those instant flavored coffees and coffee drinks and began working on making the coffee bean flavored. Other coffee roasters didn’t go for exotic flavored coffees; instead they focused on the growing and roasting of the bean itself to make a gourmet flavor.

Beans that are grown in certain regions are considered more desirable than those in other regions. Think back to those Juan Valdez commercials. They were marketing the Columbian bean as being a more flavorful and sought after bean. The Jamaican Blue Forest Bean is one of the most sought after gourmet beans due to its rich taste and enchanting aroma. This bean is proof that gourmet flavor can come from the bean itself, not necessarily as an addition during roasting.

The Bean and the Flavor

Gourmet flavors can be added during the roasting process to enhance or totally alter the flavor of the coffee. There is one central premise that gourmet coffee roasters all follow in order for their coffee to be considered truly gourmet and that is the bean they start with. No matter what additions or flavors they add during roasting, starting off with an inferior bean will create an inferior coffee.

Although there are more than 25 major types of coffee beans in the world, there are two beans that are considered the major players in gourmet flavored coffees, the Arabica bean and the Robusta bean.

The Arabica bean is used in more than 60% of all gourmet coffee production around the world. This bean is very delicate and prone to disease, pest and ailments from the weather. These reasons alone make it a more costly bean. The Arabica bean is used both as a gourmet coffee on its own and as a base for gourmet flavored coffees. The taste of the Arabica bean depends on where it is grown.

The Robusta bean accounts for about 40% of coffee production in the world. Robusta beans are easier to grow which makes them less expensive. This does not mean that they are any less flavorful than Arabica beans. Robusta, as the name implies, have a stronger, darker flavor than Arabica beans and can be used to give the gourmet flavored coffee a little more punch.

Oftentimes gourmet roasters will use a blend of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans as the base to their gourmet flavored coffee. Then, during the roasting process they will add enhancements such as chocolate syrups or caramel to flavor the coffee. Flavoring oils can also be used to flavor the coffee as well as chemical compounds that are created to mimic flavors.

Gourmet flavored coffee that presents itself as naturally flavored should have the most robust coffee base as well as a subtle flavoring. Flavored coffees that have been flavored using a chemical process lose some of their natural coffee characteristics during the flavoring process.

Gourmet flavored coffees have come a long way in recent years. From deep, robust coffee that has been dark roasted to those wonderful vanilla bean gourmet flavored coffees, coffee lover’s palettes can be tantalized with a variety of coffee flavors. No longer set aside for the elite, gourmet coffees can be bought at the local grocer or coffee shop by most anyone.

People have been drinking coffee in one form or another for hundreds of years. During those hundreds of years there has been debate after debate about whether or not it causes health problems. The simple truth is that there is no simple answer to the question.

Coffee has both pros and cons and these should be taken into consideration. For many people starting the day off without a cup of coffee would not even be an option. Many of these same people will drink multiple cups of coffee throughout the morning and some will continue throughout the day. These are the people who should look at both sides of the coin and then decide how much coffee they should drink.

Good Coffee

As any morning coffee drinker will attest, coffee is an excellent pick-me-up. Practically everyone knows that is true. However, what many people don’t realize is that coffee does have other good qualities. Some of those good qualities are actually health boosters, such as:

Research has shown that coffee may help reduce the risk of diabetes, particularly early stage diabetes. Coffee has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels and improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Some researchers say that 6 cups per day can reduce the risk of diabetes by fifty percent.

Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease both have been shown to be effected by coffee. People who drink coffee on a regular basis have an eighty percent less chance of having these diseases affect their body than non-coffee drinkers.

The risk of colon cancer is reduced by twenty –five percent by drinking just two cups of coffee per day. This may be due in part to coffee aiding in bowel functions.

Other health concerns that have been shown to be positively affected by coffee include: cirrhosis of the liver risk decreases by eighty percent and the chance of having gallstones is decreased as well.

Coffee contains many chemicals that are antibacterial and also contains more antioxidants than a cup of grape juice. The antioxidants help to fight infection and the chemicals found in coffee have antibacterial effects.

In addition, coffee has been shown to help prevent dental cavities and to be helpful to asthma patients. The latter is possibly due to the hot beverage opening up the passageways for breathing.

Bad Coffee

All of the good side effects do not mean that there are not some bad side effects. Coffee is addictive. People who drink coffee daily become addicted to the caffeine. The body becomes accustomed to having caffeine and when it does not it reacts in the form of headaches, depression-like moods, and imbalanced blood sugars.

Coffee can also slow the metabolic system down which makes it harder to maintain weight. There are some people who argue that coffee keeps them from eating, while this may be true, it is also true that metabolism slows down which stops weight loss.

Bottom of the Cup

The bottom of the cup, so to speak, is that just like anything else, coffee consumption should be in moderation. Coffee doesn’t have to be banned but it should be monitored and not over–indulged in.

Word on the street is that there’s a new range of coffee machines out there…
These aren’t just regular run of the mill machines…these are sleek, stylish and produce a killer cup of coffee in juts a few seconds.

Where can I get one of these fantastic http://www.flaviastore.co.uk I hear you cry….
Well the answer is simple… many drinks machine manufacturers now offer some of these desktop dream machines orderable on line or at many trade shows around the country.

Easy to use and even easier to find…have a look on Google and away you go!

The office coffee machine plays a vital role in the smooth running of the office.
Without their regular caffeine kick… work would slump to a halt, arguments would ensue over who used the fax machine last, and office politics would become a thing of the past replaced by the ‘lack of caffeine kick down’

So it will come as no surprise that the office coffee machine is probably one of the most important pieces of equipment in your building.

One company that produces office coffee machines is ‘Flavia’ they pride themselves on good quality coffee by using a source, seal and serve motto which basically means we end up with tasty coffee courtesy of them.

One of Flavia’s best sellers appears to be the Flavia Creation 400, which sits neatly on any work top. Compact, light weight and easy to maintain, much like we like our men…this coffee machine really does make life easy!

Drinks machines are advancing, many now have the freshest coffee beans, the richest flavors and better prices than high-street coffee shops. Manufacturers like Flavia pride themselves on making your coffee break easier and simpler to enjoy.

So spread the word…great tasting coffee can be yours at the touch of a button… fresh tasting, aromatic and convenient to use. The coffee machines market has never looked so good… and without these great devices where would we hold the office gossip session… there really is no place better suited to office gossip then the office ‘gossip’ coffee machine…but don’t tell anyone I told you!
