Have you been plagued by uninformed friends and family members who swear that they know beer better than you?

Well, it’s time to tackle the top beer myths and demolish them once and for all.

Myth number one: Only men homebrew – women don’t drink or make beer.

Not true! Although there are a huge number of male homebrewers and beer drinkers, there’s also a large number of women who do the same – and this number grows every year.

Myth number two: For best results, you must bottle your homebrew inside of green bottles only.

Nope! Brown bottles are best – they keep out the most light. Exposure to light is a sure-fire way to ruin a good batch of beer.

Myth number three: Bitter beer is bad beer.

Okay, let’s get this straight: Whether a little bitter or a lot, all beers have a bitter flavor. The reason for this is the use of hops, which is required for the authentic beer taste. So if your beer is bitter – it’s just fine as it is.

Myth number four: The only reason to homebrew is because the alcohol content is higher than beers you can buy at the store.

This is simply false. The reason this myth exists is because of bad information: Many beers you buy show the alcohol content by weight, while alcohol content is measured by volume when homebrewing. Quite often the homebrew beer matches the similar alcohol content of the store-bought brands, if not being just a little more or less. The reason to homebrew is the fun and the delicious result.

Myth number five: Homebrewed beer is ruined if the bottles are not kept refrigerated.

Truth is if the bottle has not been opened, just return the warm beer to the fridge. Once cold, it will taste just as great as before. The only ways to destroy a good homebrew is to let it sit out open to the air, or set a clear bottle of brew in the sun for a long time.

Now you know the truth – these beer myths have been completely busted. However, there is one more that is the number one complaint: Homebrewing is hard work. Nowadays, with prepared malt extracts and six-gallon fermenters, it’s no more difficult than making bread in a bread machine. Just mix the ingredients, cap the fermenter, and let the yeast go to work making you beer.

The fledgling system, Wolfram Alpha, revealed at Harvard University in the United States last week, takes the first approach in the direction that many consider to be the Internet’s Holy Grail – a global store of information that understands and replies to regular language in the same way a person would.

Although the program is still new, it has already generated massive interest and excitement with technology experts and internet aficionados.

Computer professionals think that the new search engine will an evolutionary jump in the advancement of the internet. Nova Spivack, an internet and computer expert, said that Wolfram Alpha could become just as popular as Google. “It is really impressive and significant,” he wrote. “In fact it may be as important for the web (and the world) as Google, but for a different purpose.”

Tom Simpson, of the blog www.convergenceofeverything.com, said: “What are the wider implications exactly? A new paradigm for using computers and the web? Probably. Emerging artificial intelligence and a step towards a self-organizing internet? Possibly… I think this could be big.”

Wolfram Alpha can not only give a direct answer to questions like “how high is Mount Everest?”, but it will also create a neat page of related information – all accurately annotated – such as geographical location and nearby towns, and other mountains, complete with graphs and charts.

The real ingenuity, however, is in its ability to sort information out “on the fly”, according to its British inventor, Dr Stephen Wolfram. If you ask it to compare the height of Mount Everest to the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, it will tell you. Or ask what the weather was like in London on the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, it will cross-check and provide the answer. Ask it about D sharp major, it will play the scale. Type in “10 flips for four heads” and it will guess that you want to get the probability of coin-tossing. If you want to know when the next solar eclipse over Chicago is, or the exact current location of the International Space Station, it can work it out.

Dr. Wolfram, an award-winning physicist who is equations.

“I’ve wanted to make the knowledge we’ve accumulated in our civilization computable,” he said last week. “I was not sure it was possible. I’m a little surprised it worked out so well.”

Dr. Wolfram, 49, who was educated at Eton and had completed his PhD in particle physics by the age of 20, added that the launch of Wolfram Alpha later this month would be only the beginning of the project.

“It will understand what you are talking about,” he said. “We are just at the beginning. I think we’ve got a reasonable start on 90 per cent of the shelves in a typical reference library.”

The engine, which will be free to use, works by drawing on the knowledge of the internet, as well as private databases. Dr. Wolfram said he expected that about 1,000 people would be required to keep its databases updated with the most recent discoveries and information.

Wolfram Alpha has been designed with experts and academics in mind, so its knowledge of popular culture is, at the moment, comparatively poor. The term “50 Cent” resulted in “absolute horror” in tests, for example, because it confused a query on money with the American rap artist. For this reason alone it is unlikely to provide an immediate threat to Google, which is working on a similar type of search engine, a version of which it launched last week.

“We have a lot number of popular culture information,” Dr Wolfram said. “In some senses popular culture information is much more shallowly computable, so we can find out who’s related to who and how tall people are. I fully expect we will have masses of popular culture information. These are linguistic terrors because if you place in books and music a lot of the names collide with other ideas.”

He added that to help with that Wolfram Alpha would be using Wikipedia’s popularity index to decide what users were likely to be interested in.

With Google now one of the world’s top brands, worth $100bn, Wolfram Alpha has the potential to become one of the biggest names on the planet.

Dr. Wolfram, however, did not rule out working with Google in the future, as well as Wikipedia. “We’re working to partner with all possible organisations that make sense,” he said. “Search, narrative, news are complementary to what we have. Hopefully there will be some great synergies.”

When you read Amazon Thunder’s mission statement for the company, their goal is to “aid and support the preservation of the Amazon River region”, “provide the highest quality Acai products” “100% organic, harvested and produced by Amazon Rainforest communities” and offer “only the purest organic Amazonian fruit products”.

What sounds like a high order of quality control and environmental preservation, Amazon Thunder is delivering on their mission by offering the World’s purest Acai berry juice products on the market. The motto for Amazon Thunder is “a taste of quality and health”.

Amazon Thunder was created in 2005 by Robert Todd and wife, Jeanette Reum. Through a partnership with a Brazilian Co-op that provides jobs and housing to the Amazon Rainforest community. Robert has always been in pursuit of the latest optimum health supplements, as a former Golden Gloves boxing Champion for the state of Nevada. The entire focus is on the product, customer service and the preservation of the Amazonian people.

Since the discovery of the Acai berry, (ah-sigh-EE) as the World’s most nutritious food, many products have been put on the market that contain it. Derived from a particular species of Brazilian palm tree that grows in the Amazon River basin, many of the products on the market are processed in China, and don’t contain the purest versions, thus diluting the high anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the berry.

Amazon Thunder offers the purest, unclarified, 100% certified organic, 100% certified kosher Acai berry pulp you can buy anywhere. The IMO certified Brazilian facility ships a freeze dried pulp which is imported to the United States into USDA and FDA top quality facilities, where it is made into Amazon Thunder Acai Berry Pulp Puree, Capsules and Powder.

The Amazon Thunder Acai Berry Pulp Puree, is 100% natural, and has 100% organic whole grape pulp added for sweetness, with no sugar or preservatives. Unlike the competition that dilutes the Acai and adds sugars and preservatives, it is the purest puree of Acai you can get.

The capsules and powder are freeze dried Acai Berry pulp powder that is pure and not diluted with corn starch for filler, like other products. You can use the powder to sprinkle on foods or make a delicious smoothie and even add it to recipes.

The Acai benefits are well researched and scientific research has shown that it contains the highest concentrations of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories of any other known wellness fruit. Not only do the anti-oxidants fight the free radicals and toxins in your system, but your immune system is strengthened, and Acai berry helps in giving you a youthful and energetic metabolism.

Many celebrities are strong supporters of Amazon Thunder, and it has been featured on the 2009 Oscars, as the health drink of the stars. Of all the Acai berry products available, Amazon Thunder tops them all, hands down.

See how Amazon Thunder has fulfilled their mission statement by providing the purest, and only organic and kosher Acai berry pulp products available. Discover the nutritious values of the World’s latest wonder food!

Its one thing to make a cake and decorate it, but its another thing to actually come up with the inspiration on what NEW cake to make for that special occasion.

I know I have always struggled to find ideas for new cakes, or I have found pictures but never the instructions to make it. Once you have the basic skills under hand its easy to make professional looking cakes without any hassle.

Here are a few top tips for baking and decorating cakes:

1. Do not use butter to grease your tin, butter has water in it and when it melts it will make your beautiful cake soggy. If you use a touch of flour instead that will keep it from sticking to the cake tin.

2. Before you start icing make sure the cake is 100% cooled. Otherwise the icing will start to melt in front of your eyes, and you don’t want to rush your cake decorating.

3. Always put a top and bottom border on your cake to make it look complete. Otherwise, your cake will look a little unfinished.

4. Make sure to stand in front of your cake when you are decorating it. Even better get someone else to glance at it to make sure everything is where it should be. Even take a break every now and then.

5. Make sure that you have the perfect consistency in your icing, too thick or too thin will ruin your cake before you have even started. To thin will not stay on and too thick will pull chunks of your cake off.

It is hard to find inspiration and instructions to actually have your cakes come together like the professionals cakes.

And if you find baking and decorating cakes yourself a bit difficult then you can simply order mouth watering cakes at www.birthdaycake.co.in

.

8 Essential Tips For Food and Food Processors

Here are 8 tips about food.

It always fascinates me that you can always find something new about a topic if you look hard enough, and these 8 tips are useful reminders.

I struggled to find a reliable source myself – epecially for food processors, so I decided to collate some tips for you. I hope that you find them both useful and interesting.
Tip #1

Most all food processors come with a slicing disc. The Cuisinart slicing disc makes lovely, even, precise slices. This allows you to make beautiful appetizer trays, because the slices are not torn or jagged. Cuisinart has very little waste because the discs are so precise. This is a very important factor, as we are all trying to save money and groceries are so expensive.

Tip #2

It’s quick and easy to make salsa, pesto, shred cheeses, shred carrots, make purees. You can puree some pinto beans for refried beans to go on nachos. Just shred the cheese first, then do the beans and spread over the tortilla chips. Sprinkle the cheese over the nachos. Homemade salsa over this, perhaps? Or shred lettuce for tacos, then make your tacos with the beans, lettuce, salsa, whatever you like. A very fun, quick meal at home with minimal clean up.

Tip #3

Do you want to save money and time in the kitchen? Well, of course! Since we are all looking for ways to save money these days, it seems that the only place left to cut back is at the grocery store. There are some products with a store label that we can save money on, instead of paying for the more popular brand. We all have to take a closer look at how we spend our grocery money.

Tip #4

These days food processors have so many different attachments that you don’t even need to buy the most expensive one to get all the benefits. The one thing that you do need to decide on is the size of the processor you want to purchase.

Tip #5

Be sure to size your new food processor to the task. If you overwork the processor by constantly pushing its capacity, you could shorten its lifespan and effectiveness. Manufacturers usually list this information for each model. Some units have more than one bowl size, allowing you to change the capacity according to what you are processing. This is especially useful if you have medium and small size processing tasks.

Tip #6

Another thing that you may want to keep in mind when selecting your food processor is the amount of power it has. Any one you find should have sufficient power to perform routine tasks but if you need it for more demanding food processing there are professional models that have over 600 watts of power, which should get the job done.

Tip #7

If you have decided to buy a food processor for yourself or for giving away as a gift then it’s a nice thing to buy the best one in the market. It is necessary understand first that, “best” is a relative term and changes from person to person.

Tip #8

Food Processors are complex pieces of technology that have been so ingeniously created for the comfort of the modern day cook. They come with numerous attachments to perform a range of food processing tasks. For example research has shown that a small kitchens’ food processor performs more than 22 functions. In order to cater to the multifarious cuisine of a diverse group of people and make their cooking seem like a work of art, the modern food processor has to perform more tasks than any demanding cook could possibly dream of.

Well…that’s enough tips for now. I’m sure 8 is enough to be getting along with!

I hope that you found these food and food processors resources useful, they certainly helped me!

Mankind has been drinking wine for thousands of years. Have you ever wondered how wine is made? Do you know that wine can be made at home? In fact, wine used to be made at home until somebody came up with the fantastic idea of mass producing wine and selling it to others to enable them to enjoy great wine with minimum fuss.

We all know wine is made from grapes. How then is it different from grape juice? Is wine just glorified grape juice? Certainly not! The presence of alcohol in wine makes it totally different from grape juice.

So where does the alcohol come from? Is it added to the wine? When we talk about alcohol, we are not talking about whisky or beer. We are talking about the chemical spirit alcohol. Grape juice gets its alcohol content from fermentation.

Fermentation is the process of interaction of yeast, which is a single celled living organism, with the sugar in the grape juice. Alcohol and carbon dioxide are the by-products of this reaction. This reaction continues until the alcohol content becomes so high that the yeast dies off due to the alcohol it created. The yeast sinks to the bottom and is removed. What began as grape juice and yeast has now become wine. This wine must be filtered and stored before it can be consumed.

Had mankind not known what yeast was and what it could do, we would have been sipping grape juice instead of refreshing wine!

Yeast is also found naturally. In this form, it is called wild yeast. The wild yeast that sticks to the skin of the grapes gets mixed with grape juice to initiate fermentation. Hence, wine can be made even without manual addition of yeast. However, there is no certainty that the wine would be to your liking. Adding processed yeast specifically made for making wine helps you control the taste of wine. Relying on wild yeast is a bit of a gamble.

The manual addition of yeast is not a simple process. You can’t buy just any yeast and add it to the grapes. Many individuals who make wine at home opt for the yeast that is used in making bread as this yeast will lead to fermentation and alcohol production. However, using yeast strains that have been made specifically for wine is preferable as it offers the following advantages:

- You know how the yeast will behave. That is, you know how much alcohol it produces, how long it should be stored and the taste it creates. This is possible because the yeast is manufactured after repeated testing and experimentation.

- If you want wine with a high alcohol content, you can opt for those strains that are resistant to alcohol. Since yeast dies during the wine making process, a higher resistance will enable the yeast to survive for a long period of time. This will result in wine with a high alcohol content.

- If you do not intend to store the wine for a long period and if you wish to consume it quickly, you can opt for yeast that reacts with sugar. This yeast will produce a lot of alcohol fast.

Making wine at home is a fruitful exercise if you follow the correct process and have the right tools and materials. You can then proudly share your home made wine with friends and family.

Depending on the location and the dominant food crop grown in the area, various food items have been fermented and distilled for the manufacture of liquor. Brewing one’s own liquor has always been very important for people in a society and interestingly, most of the popular brands today (Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker etc.) are actually named after the individual brewers and masters of their craft.

Australian Home Brewing has always looked after the needs of people who are interested in making their own drinks at home.
